Jarne Postma joined MSC as an associate in June directly from the university. He has always been intrigued by the discovery of new solutions to problems that preferably improve society, which over time turned into a drive to support ventures in how to make innovations profitable. The life science industry ticks many of those boxes for him, and for most of us at MSC too. We’re happy to have him here!
Can you tell us about your background?
Hello Hello, my name is Jarne.
Life science to me has for a long time been a field that has much to offer, a field where there are still many solutions that have not yet been discovered. I knew that I wanted to be part of discovering these new solutions and innovations to, in some way or another, improve society.
To accomplish that, I took a bachelor’s in biotechnology. But during that time, I realized I was maybe not suited so well to work in a lab. I was fascinated by the research that was happening all around me in the university, but I wanted something more fast-paced, and something that was closer to reaching the public. I wanted to make sure that innovations would make the leap from the lab to the market, and land safely on the other side. Therefore, I chose to change the trajectory of my career by studying Entrepreneurship and Business Design, giving me hands-on experience in making innovations profitable. During my studies, however, I was not patient enough to wait until I graduated to apply my knowledge to the real world. Therefore, I joined a non-profit consultancy focused on life science start-ups where we helped ventures with everything from strategy to regulatory compliance. It was during this time that I understood that I really enjoyed being able to work on different projects. So, not much later I applied for a spot on the MSC team.
“To me, consulting is like watching a good Netflix series, something new and exciting happens every day.”
Why did you choose to join MSC?
I am proud of the Nordic life science industry with its large number of new innovations and new technologies that are being invented. I want to be part of as many of these innovations as possible and already I have been able to work on new innovations during my time at MSC.
I joined MSC because it gives me the unique opportunity to help small- to medium sized life science companies in a large range of projects. As I mentioned before, the leap from innovation to the market is very large, and many details need to be in order. I thrive with doing many different tasks and applying learnings from one to the other. MSC is a company that allows me to work on many different projects, learning new things along the way.
What do you look forward to most in joining MSC?
I am truly excited to learn from all the talented people at MSC to get more experience within the field. I look forward to all the challenging tasks that lie ahead and the long days to figure out solutions. To me, consulting is like watching a good Netflix series, something new and exciting happens every day.
What are you most proud of in your professional life thus far?
During 2021, I was part of a team that founded a high-tech start-up in cybersecurity. As I have a biotech background the cybersecurity field was unfamiliar to me, to say the least. But together with the team, we put in a lot of effort, time, and energy to put the venture on the tracks. I learned a lot, both within cybersecurity but also about how to create a successful venture in general. Looking back to where I started from, I am proud of where the venture was in June 2022 when I joined MSC, and I am curious to see what is yet to come.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Now that summer is here, I have been able to enjoy riding my bike more. Luckily, I live close enough to the MSC office to take my bike here and live far enough away to have time to enjoy the bike ride here in the mornings.
